Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow
Glasgow’s New Stobhill Hospital was supplied with nearly 1,000 chairs by Knightsbridge Furniture in time for its official opening in May.
The development of the hospital in Springburn, North Glasgow, is part of the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Acute Services Strategy for Greater Glasgow. Underpinned by a major capital investment programme, the strategy aims to provide modern, fit for purpose hospital buildings which have been planned and designed with the involvement of patients, families and carers in addition to members of the wider community.
The New Stobhill Hospital provides diagnostic services and facilities for day-case surgery, and seating from the Knightsbridge Furniture healthcare portfolio has been standardised throughout. Knightsbridge worked closely with the project management team to ensure a smooth transition from specification to delivery, maintaining efficient command of the logistics to ensure delivery and installation was completed within the tight timescale.
All 902 of the Knightsbridge Malham chairs produced for the New Stobhill Hospital have been specified in a cool blue vinyl upholstery, which contrasts with their natural beech timber to give a stylish impression in keeping with the hospital’s light and airy central atrium. A combination of armed, armless and linked models have been arranged in different configurations to accommodate patients’ needs: some are in small social groupings or facing lines, for instance, whilst others are set in parallel rows to respect patient privacy.
In completing the project, Knightsbridge Furniture deployed vinyl upholstery fabrics from the latest Cadet range, enabling the company to provide seating with effective anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties across a new palette of colours and designs.
