Victoria Hospital, Glasgow
Glasgow’s latest hospital was ready for its official opening in June, thanks to the production and delivery of nearly 1,000 chairs by Knightsbridge Furniture.
The development of the New Victoria Infirmary to the south of Glasgow city centre is part of the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Acute Services Strategy for Greater Glasgow. Underpinned by a major capital investment programme, the strategy aims to provide modern, fit for purpose hospital buildings which have been planned and designed with the involvement of patients, families and carers in addition to members of the wider community.
The hospital provides diagnostic services and facilities for day-case surgery, and seating from the Knightsbridge Furniture healthcare portfolio has been standardised throughout. Knightsbridge worked closely with the project management team to ensure a smooth transition from specification to delivery, maintaining efficient command of the logistics to ensure all was ready in time for the formal opening.
Within the hospital, a colour-coded environment has been created, with a different colourway for each floor selected to reflect the coloured glass panels which are a feature of the architecture. A total of 972 Knightsbridge chairs have been upholstered in either yellow, green or hyacinth blue according to their location, with seating frames and arms in a natural beech timber. A mix of armed and armless chairs in Knightsbridge Malham and Iona designs has been specified, and all are now arranged in position around examples of the company’s Nova coffee tables.
In completing the project, Knightsbridge Furniture deployed vinyl upholstery fabrics from the latest Cadet range, enabling the company to provide seating with effective anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties across a new palette of colours and designs.
