Utilising a simple, two-step movement, the Shangrila quickly transforms from a chair into a bed. This function offers an innovative solution to the problem of short term bed provision. Hospitals are busy places where situations escalate and change quickly, so this flexibility when it comes to offering a place for people to rest their heads is important. The Shangrila can be used for visitors at a patient’s bedside, for staff who need to take a break, or to provide rest for people facing long delays. With regards to the chair’s design, the seat cushions are deep and created from comfortable foam to ensure real rest and recuperation. The two-step movement from chair to bed is also operated using an easy pull mechanism to release the two bottom sections of the bed, with the headrest tilting to form the third section and provide a full length bed for users.
