Caravelle: A Mid Century Classic Remastered
Originally launched by Knightsbridge in the 1950’s, the Caravelle range was redeveloped from the Knightsbridge archives. Redeveloped for modern manufacture, this range celebrates Knightsbridge’s milestone 80th birthday. Despite it’s age the the Caravelle’s design remains a strong statement.
The Caravelle armchair is one of three pieces in this range. Along with the other setee and the chair, the Caravelle Armchair was launched at Clerkenwell Design Week 2019. Caravelle celebrates Knightsbridge’s history, craftsmanship and manufacturing ability, as well as identifying reemerging interior design trends from bygone eras. The collection consists of an armchair, alongside a 2 and 3 seater settee. Significantly, all three have the clean lines and organic curves that the mid-century period became renowned for.
Design
Throughout the whole design, development and manufacturing process the construction of the Caravelle is crafted as efficiently as possible. To clarify, waste materials are kept to a minimum, whilst creating a beautifully styled product. Knightsbridge operates a minimum waste policy throughout every aspect of design, development and manufacturing. For this reason any leftover material is used in Knightsbridge’s boiler to heat the factory.
The Caravelle utilises a combination of the latest technology and traditional woodworking skills. Just like it’s time old design, it is built to last. Accordingly, it features a 10 year manufacturing guarantee. Designed and developed by Knightsbridge’s in house design team, the trio of luxuriously deep upholstered seating reflects the growing trend in the industry. In light of recent trends, they offer a domestic, lounge-styled profile. The range creates a relaxed, comfortable and inviting environments in workplace, hospitality and learning/educational interiors.
Moreover, Caravelle can be upholstered by Knightsbridge’s own skilled upholstery and sewing team. Concurrently, Caravelles are available in a wide range soft linens, velvets and faux leathers. Additionally, customers may specify their own covers. For the range launch at CDW, Knightsbridge teamed up with textile designers Timorous Beasties. Cheiftly making use of one of their iconic flora & fauna fabrics to create stunning visual identity for Caravelle.
Caravelle has been developed with style, comfort and practicality in the workplace in mind. So as to achieve this, the Caravelle is crafted with a deep cushioned seat and back to give the user maximum comfort whilst seated, careful consideration has been given to the seat height which is ideal for pairing with the Itsy laptop table to create a flexible comfortable working zone.
To conclude, the Caravelle range stands the test of time as a robust, striking set of furniture.
