5 minutes with Jason Brown
We sat down with our Director of Design, Research and Development, Jason Brown to find out a little more about his job role and what he likes to get up to away from the Knightsbridge HQ…
Hi Jason! Can you tell us a little more about what your job role entails and what your day-to-day looks like?
I am responsible for the concept designs for our furniture, their development journey with our in-house team, costings, any new tooling or machinery, sourcing new materials or methods. I also help with exhibition stand designs and marketing for Knightsbridge Furniture, so I’m always busy!
What would you say is your favourite part of your role?
The variation I think, and the fact that each element of my role is a facet of the big ‘puzzle’, making it all work in the time-quality-cost triangle of product design. We’re really lucky here at Knightsbridge to work with amazing independent designers to help us with creating some of our gorgeous ranges and I really respect and love working alongside the whole team in Design and Development. We are all experts in our field and have become solid problem solvers, improvers and enablers to the business.
Do you have a favourite project that you have worked on?
Honestly, I love them all, even the frustrating ones. The least aesthetically pleasing project can become the most intricate and satisfying mathematically. Equally we can be working on a visually attractive model which has technical issues of its own to solve.
Are there any exciting projects coming up?
Yes, we are launching a number of product ranges really soon which I am looking forward to sharing with the world.
How do you like to spend your time away from Knightsbridge HQ?
I have a family who I love being with, I am a Soul and Funk DJ playing vinyl records, music is a big part of my life. Vintage motorcycles and scooters have been a passion of mine for the last 45 years, which I enjoy working on and riding regularly.
